Windhoek: The Namibia Training Authority Driving(NTA) launched a technical project on August 5,2025 to align vocational training with Namibia’s green energy transition.
These visions are policy initiatives such as the National Renewable Energy Policy and the country’s strategic investments in green hydrogen, supported by global partnerships including the EU Namibia Strategic Partnership on Sustainable Raw Materials and Renewable Hydrogen and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit(GIZ). The initiative will run until March 2027 and aims to equip Namibians, especially youth and women with skills for green economy, focusing on curriculum updates, trainer capacity building and industry partnership.
At the heart of this transformation is the Namibia Training Authority (NTA), which is spearheading efforts to ensure that the country’s workforce is equipped with the skills needed to thrive in the emerging green economy. The NTA’s work is critical in preparing Namibians especially youth, women and persons with disabilities to participate meaningfully in this just energy transition.
The new initiative technical and vocational education and training (TVET) will focus on meeting the needs of Namibia’s evolving labor market. The project aims to create at least five new competency standards related to green energy, which will be formally registered under the National Qualifications Framework (NQF). These standards will guide the development of future training programs that are aligned with industry requirements.
The project will conduct a feasibility study to explore the creation of a specialized TVET hub dedicated to green hydrogen and renewable energy training. Through these integrated efforts, the NTA and its partners are not only supporting Namibia,s national energy goals but also ensuring that the workforce is ready to power a greener, more inclusive future. As Namibia takes its place on the global stage as a green hydrogen leader, a well trained future ready workforce will be central to its long- term success
