The Official opening was held at the IUM Main Campus in Dorado Park in Windhoek under the theme “Our Roots, Our Future.” The event marked the beginning of a week-long celebration of Namibia’s rich cultural heritage, featuring performances from various ethnic groups including Oshiwambo, Damara/Nama, Tswana, and Caprivian troupes.
In her Keynote address Vice-Chancellor of IUM, Dr. Hendrina Udjombala, emphasized that cultural festivals are more than entertainment — they’re platforms for learning and empathy.
“Culture is the glue that brings about social cohesion, which, in turn, improves our ability to overcome challenges together,” she said. She further added that people are better able to comprehend other points of view about the world by learning about other cultures.
The festival runs until Saturday, 31 August, with daily exhibitions, traditional performances, food stalls and student-led cultural showcases. It continues to serve as a platform for inter-cultural exchange, youth empowerment, and community engagement, reinforcing IUM’s role as a champion of cultural literacy and national identity
