The International University of Management (IUM) has reaffirmed its commitment to global engagement and inclusive education by offering a free Russian Language as a Foreign Language course to all Namibians.

The programme officially opened the Second Russian Language Training Session on 11 September 2025 at the Dorado Main Campus in Windhoek. The event was honoured by the presence of high-profile delegates from the Perm State Humanitarian Pedagogical University (PSHPU) in Russia, led by Prof.Dr. Konstain Egorov, Rector of PSHPU and Dr Anastasia Vertyanova, Head of the Department of International Cooperation.

The attendance signified the growing academic collaboration between IUM and PSHPU. Notably, the two delegates had also launched a similar Russian language centre at the University of Botswana, further demonstrating their commitment to expanding Russian Language and cultural studies across the Southern African Region. The programme has attracted over 460 applicants, a testament to the rising national interest in foreign language learning and cross-cultural exchange.

To ensure inclusivity, learners have been placed into Beginner, Elementary and Advanced levels which will cater to various levels of language proficiency. IUM seeks to provide a strong foundation in the Russian language through this initiative, which will foster a meaningful international dialogue.

The programme supports pre-university preparation, particularly for students aspiring to pursue higher education opportunities in Russian institutions. The launch demonstrates IUM’s dedication to creating equal educational opportunities for all Namibians while simultaneously enhancing international cooperation among universities.

The expansion of the Russian Language course at IUM exemplifies the university’s mission to create equitable educational opportunities for all Namibians. It also highlights the broader goal of strengthening international cooperation in higher education, fostering a future where language becomes a powerful tool for unity, opportunity and global connection.
