UNAM Hosts 2025 SRC Congress in Swakopmund

The University of Namibia (UNAM) 2025 Student Representative Council (SRC) Congress was held at Swakopmund where representatives from all 12 campuses came together to discuss issues affecting students under the theme “Redefining Student Leadership for Inclusive Transformation.”


The event was attended by delegates, including the Minister of Justice and Labour Relations Hon. Fillemon Wise Immanuel, Governor of the Erongo Region Hon. Natalia Goagoses, UNAM Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Kenneth Matengu, UNAM Directorate of Student Affairs, SRC President and Representatives from all 12 UNAM Campuses.


In her keynote address, Governor of the Erongo Region Hon. Natalia Goagoses encouraged students to embrace service and innovation: “Leadership is about responsibility. Our country needs young leaders who are willing to lead with integrity, serve their communities, and drive transformation in all spheres of life.”


UNAM Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kenneth Matengu commended the SRC for uniting students across campuses: “The University is committed to working hand in hand with student leaders to improve the academic and social environment. Together, we can build a culture of excellence that leaves no student behind.”


The congress aimed to discuss issues affecting students such as, student accommodation, mental health, bursary reforms and digital learning platforms. Delegates launched programmes that included student mentorship and online engagement to strengthen the communication between SRCs and students.


SRC representatives emphasized on improving student engagement through campus visits, town hall meetings, and social media platforms. They emphasized that transformation at UNAM must remain studentcentered and inclusive.
