The River Higher Institute of Technology (RHIT) hosted a vibrant and inspiring Entrepreneurship Day at its Windhoek North Campus on Wednesday, 3rd September 2025. The event which celebrated the innovative drive of its students, faculty and local community offered a dynamic platform for emerging entrepreneurs to showcase their skills and knowledge.
Participants included entrepreneurship students from three different courses, each tasked with developing and selling products for the day. In an interview with Campus Connect magazine, Fritz Fredrick, the Student Representative Council (SRC) and Head of Student and Academic Affairs indicated that the goal for the Entrepreneurship day was to provide students from various programs who are taking Entrepreneurship this semester with practical experience while also encouraging them to launch their own business ventures.
“In terms of support, there was only a guiding hand given by lecturers involved in this initiative, but the students had to bring their best game, since they were told that they were competing with one another. But it wasn’t about the competition, it was about the learning experience for each student,”says Fredrick. The event created an atmosphere of excitement and collaboration, as students proudly exhibited their products and made sales throughout the day. According to Fredrick, this hands-on approach could be the launchpad for future success stories. He added, “I know these students were very happy with exhibiting their products and making sales. If any success stories come from a student from River Higher Institute of Technology, my first guess would be.”
Furthermore, Frederick highlighted that the event was only a milestone set by RHIT, a means of management-to-student engagement, stating that it gives students a platform to showcase their business skills, to be innovative and to prepare for the big market in the future.
Entrepreneurship isn’t new to RHIT, it’s been part of the institution’s mission since its transformation from Monitronics Success College into a full-fledged higher institute. River higher offers a variety of courses that nurture entrepreneurial thinking and leadership. These programs provide students with a strong foundation in business principles while also encouraging creativity, problem solving and innovation key traits of successful entrepreneurs.
Ultimately, Entrepreneurship Day is more than just an event, it is a launchpad for future leaders, innovators and change makers. It reflects RHIT’s deep commitment to bridging academic theory with practical application, ensuring that students graduate with not only knowledge but also the confidence and capability to create their own opportunities. By engaging directly with the local community, the event also fosters important real-world skills such as customer interaction, market research, branding, financial planning and teamwork. These experiences are vital in preparing students for the realities of running a business in today’s fastchanging economy.
Through initiatives such as the Entrepreneurship Day and by integrating entrepreneurship into its curriculum, RHIT is not only building a culture of innovation on campus but also contributing to Namibia’s broader economic development.
As students step out of the classroom and into the marketplace, they are empowered to turn ideas into action, transform challenges into solutions and drive sustainable growth in their communities and beyond.
