Windhoek: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) hosted its vibrant

Cultural Festival at Zoo Park in Windhoek on Friday, 29 August 2025.

Although the event initially had no official theme, students and staff em-

braced a unifying message throughout the day, “Rooted in Culture, Growing

Together.”

This organically adopted theme reflected the spirit of the festival

honoring deep cultural traditions while fostering unity and mutual

respect among Namibia’s diverse student body. Students proudly came

dressed in their traditional attire, each representing their unique cultural

background. The Oshiwambo-speaking students wore their iconic pink

dresses, symbolizing femininity, celebration, and respect for tradition.

The Nama/Damara students showcased their colorful patchwork-style

garments, reflecting resilience, creativity and cultural pride. The Kavango

students donned traditional animal-skin outfits and intricate beadwork,

signifying their strong connection to nature, ancestors and community

status. Tswana students wore bold patterned fabrics, representing unity,

identity and strength.

This year’s festival was more than just a display of clothing, it was a celebration of the students’ deep passion for their cultural roots.

From music and dance to food and storytelling, the event highlighted

the diversity and richness of Namibia’s heritage. Students expressed

excitement and satisfaction with the choice of Zoo Park as the venue.

The open, green space in the heart of Windhoek provided a perfect

backdrop for cultural expression and togetherness, making the event

both memorable and meaningful.

As the festival came to a joyful close many students and organizers

reflected on the importance of cultural awareness in education. With

growing enthusiasm and participation each year, the NIT Cultural

Festival is expected to expand even further in 2026 with hopes of

including more regional groups, workshops, and cultural exhibitions.

The event continues to stand as a symbol of unity in diversity,

celebrating not only where students come from, but also where they are

going together.
