The Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture (MEIYSAC), Hon. Sanet Steenkamp, has officially launched the 2026 NSFAF online applications for financial assistance, reaffirming the government’s commitment to making higher education accessible, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of Namibian students.
Promoting Equity and Quality Across Institutions
True equity in tertiary education means that every student, regardless of background or institution, has a fair and credible opportunity to succeed. To achieve this, the government is implementing national minimum standards across all tertiary institutions in a phased approach.
These standards aim to strengthen quality, consistency, and public confidence in Namibia’s higher education system, ensuring that qualifications remain meaningful and respected.
The Role of the Private Sector
The government calls on private sector partners to complement public efforts by supporting equity-driven financing mechanisms that prioritise students with the greatest need. There is also a strong push for investment in innovative delivery models, including quality digital learning and flexible study pathways that expand access while safeguarding academic standards.
Supporting the Cost of Living
For many students, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, the cost of living while studying remains a real challenge. The government, therefore, provides non-tuition support through the Subsidized Tertiary Education Funding Model.
While this support may not meet every need in full, it offers a vital lifeline that helps students remain enrolled, focused, and committed to completing their studies.
Investing in Human Potential
The Subsidized Tertiary Education Funding Model is firmly needs-based and developmental in its intent. Supporting students goes beyond financial assistance; it is an investment in human potential.
Through this support, the government is nurturing skilled professionals, innovators, and responsible citizens who will contribute meaningfully to Namibia’s social and economic advancement.
A Message to the Youth
Students are reminded that education remains the most powerful tool for shaping both personal futures and the future of the nation. If you have the ability and determination, do not allow financial constraints to extinguish your aspirations.
Embrace the opportunities available to you with discipline and purpose, knowing that your success strengthens Namibia’s collective future.
